Dark Tan, Darker Truths: A Summer Glow and a Missing Father

Mark Anthony Stephens posted a selfie this morning, proudly announcing, “Ok summer has given me the Dark tan lol I am really dark no joke but loving it.” He even tagged himself with @highlight, because nothing says humility quite like turning a tan into a personal brand.

Summer gave me a tan… but delusion gave me the spotlight.
Summer gave me a tan… but delusion gave me the spotlight.

Let’s set aside the fact that we’re living in an era where skin tone isn’t a flex—especially when it comes at the cost of responsibility. The real issue here isn’t the sun-kissed glow. It’s the glaring contrast between a man who has time to bask in the sun, take selfies, and bathe in superficial validation… yet somehow can’t seem to show up where it actually matters.

No job.
No child support.
No shame.
And no show.

That’s the real tan line here—one that separates appearance from accountability.

This is a man who regularly claims victimhood from a system he refuses to participate in. He cherry-picks Scripture to boost his image, blames others for consequences he’s earned, and finds time to film himself “highlighting” yet another carefully curated moment of false depth. But where is he when the real heat is on? Court dates. Financial obligations. Medical decisions. Emotional support. Silence.

Selfies don’t parent children. Tans don’t pay bills. And hashtags don’t heal the harm caused by years of absence, deflection, and manipulation.

So while Mark might be “loving” his dark tan, the people around him—especially those he’s failed time and time again—are left in the shadow of a man who shines only when it benefits him.

Because in the end, it’s not about sunlight. It’s about spotlight. And Mark will always find a way to stand in it… even if he has to leave everyone else in the dark.
